Malaysia Day 5 – Bukit Bintang and KLCC

Hi everyone,

We woke up and went down to our new hotel breakfast which is enormous. They have about 10 different stations with pretty much anything you can think of for breakfast. Really quality assortment. As you would expect of a 5-star hotel.

This is less than a quarter of the amount of stations

We decided that we were going to have a relatively relaxed day. KL has a massive shopping culture and therefore there are massive shopping malls everywhere. We are situated right around the corner from the most famous one in KL – Pavillion which is in Bukit Bintang.

Entrance to Pavilion

Pavilion is 7-storeys of massive shopping centres that has pretty much every luxury brand you can think of. It’s very high end, with a row of eateries down the middle. We spent time looking around pavilion and browsing the wares.

We spent time in a few of the other shopping centres, Farenheit and Lot10 which has a massive Don Don Donki which is a Japanese food store and is wild.

For lunch we stopped at the famous Damascus for some shawarmas and hummus. The hummus was incredible. So smooth, creamy and delicious. The shawarma’s were good too.

Did you even come to KL if you didn’t go to Damascus?

After lunch we returned to the hotel to enjoy some time in the pool. Julian never wants to get out of this pool despite hating swimming usually.

Fun swimming

After our swim we went back out to the other side of the hotel which is an area called KLCC. There is a big green area there called KLCC park that has a nice fountain in it and you can get great views of the petronas towers which are the worlds tallest twin towers and no photo does justice to how grand and beautiful these buildings are.

At the base of the petronas towers is another huge shopping centre called Suria KLCC. We walked around there and then checked out how McDonalds Malaysia’s compared to Australia. They sell Nasi Lemak on the menu, so we ordered some of that just to give it a try. It wasn’t bad, weird to get that from McDonald’s though.

Half eaten Mc’D’s Nasi Lemak (sorry!)

We then went to a place that we had planned for a long time called Mon Chinese Beef Roti. They handmake these mince and onion filled flaky pastries and they cost about $1.50 each. We got one each for dinner and sat out the front of Suria near the fountain to eat them.

It’s like a cross between a pie and a sausage roll

It was definitely a more chill day than usual, but it was nice to take it easy and just check out the luxury that KL has to offer. We’re heading up into the mountains tomorrow.
