Hi everyone,
We had a big journey ahead of us to get to KL from Penang so we went for a solid breakfast to another trendy cafe called Yolk for breakfast. It is strange in Penang, you have a real mix of old world and new. It is a UNESCO world heritage area so it has to stay old, but mixed in are all these super trendy and beautiful cafes. This was one of them. We ordered a strawberry banana smoothie and a pine-mango yoghurt crush for drinks, and for food we had peanut butter French toast, buttermilk pancakes and garlic parsley fries. It was really all very nice.

We were taking the express train from Penang Sentral at Butterworth and sometimes there a lot of traffic on the bridge to get there so we ordered a car for 11am for a 1:05pm departure on the train. Big mistake! We ended up waiting for 1.5 hours at the train station that had nothing to do there and we then had to haul our huge suitcases and stroller down the stairs to the train. It was an ordeal and was relieved when we were on the train. The train was a bit over 3 and a half hours though and it felt long. Maybe we should have taken the flight.

When we arrived at KL Sentral station we took a taxi to our hotel. The driver was pointing out the landmarks on the way which was nice. At check in at the hotel we were offered a welcome drink and then we went up to our room. The room is very nice and spacious with our own private pool on the balcony. Very nice! We tried out the pool straight away when we got in at Julian’s request.

We didn’t have lunch because of the train ordeal. We walked over to Jalan Alor Food Street which is a street that has a night market every night and there are so many stalls. One part has restaurants on one side with outside seating and the stalls on the other. Julian wanted fried rice so we sat at one restaurant to get that and also ordered some weirdly salty lime juices. Not so nice. Julian enjoyed his rice though.
We then had a beef rougamo which is like a Chinese hamburger with crispy flatbread and nicely spiced meat in the middle. It was good but we were overwhelmed with the amount of people walking and traffic driving through the stalls so we headed back to the hotel. Julian was exhausted and fell asleep in his stroller before we got back.

We were still a bit hungry so we ordered a shawarma platter for 2 from Grab which really hit the spot and then we headed to bed. Unfortunately during the middle of the night the whole hotel’s air conditioning broke down so it got really hot but we still managed some sleep.
