Singapore Day 8 – Kampong Glam & Rest

Hi everyone,

It was a very rough sleep last night on account of the very late Chagee teas that we got. We definitely underestimated how much the caffeine would affect us. After the minimal sleep we adjusted our itinerary today so that it could primarily be a rest day.

We went down for breakfast and then hopped on the bus for 10 stops to Kampong Glam which is an Arab-centric neighbourhood. It is colourful and a little bit rough around the edges, but it’s got charm. We walked down Haji Lane and looked at all the little stores along it.

Haji lane had lots of little photo booths that you can use silly props and take silly photos with, so we did that.

Then we went via the Sultan Mosque to have a look. Something was going on in there and the music was very nice. We had to change Julian’s nappy and it was the only place around so Ronnie and Julian had to take their shoes off and wash their feet before going into the parents room which was a strange experience.

Then we walked about a kilometre to a weird shopping centre for lunch. There was lots of tech and electronics stores and we got a bit lost. We ended up finding the place that we were looking for that was on the top floor directly across from a sex shop that had many different assortments on full display in their window (not pictured).

We had lunch at a place that is viral on TikTok. It’s called 3 meals a day and their main dish is the salted egg chicken which is fried chicken and rice with a sauce made out of salted duck egg yolks, butter, curry leaves and chilli. It was damn delicious. One of the best things we’ve had so far.

Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

After that we took the bus back to our hotel to rest for the rest of the afternoon/evening. We grabbed dinner at a burger place just below our hotel and caught up on some much needed downtime.

The meat on the burgers was nice, the rest wasn’t.

All three of us were in bed at 7:30pm. Back at it tomorrow.
