Singapore Day 7 – Orchard

Hi everyone,

This morning we decided to skip hotel breakfast again, walk down to Great World and grab Ya Kun Kaya toast again because it was so good the first time. It didn’t disappoint again!

A bit more soy sauce this time, still delicious

We planned to do this as the MRT station is at Great World so it would be easy to get to our next destination. We took the MRT to Orchard road which is a massive shopping street with an enormous shopping centre called ION. Unfortunately though Singapore does not have a morning culture at all so everything we closed. This turned out to be a bit of a wasted trip so we just jumped back on the MRT to Great world and took Julian to a cool indoor play centre called Amazonia.

After Amazonia, we went back to the hotel for a bit of rest before heading back down to the MRT for orchard. This time it was about 4pm so everything was open, a vastly different experience. It was buzzing and everything was open.

The front of ION

As we walked through ION we saw a Popeyes chicken and couldn’t resist getting that for dinner. Ronnie got the chicken sandwich and Aimee got some salted egg chicken. After eating many days of Asian food it felt good to get something western. It went down a treat.

Popeyes chicken is fuckin awesome
It doesn’t look great, but it was

Out the front of ION on Orchard Road they have a few different ice cream uncles who ride their bike/stores along the road and sell ice cream sandwiches for $2 each. It’s literally ice cream on bread, but fuck there is something about spending $2 and getting an old Singaporean man to make you an ice cream sandwich that just slaps. It tasted great too!

Ice cream uncle, always a line
So good
Love an ice cream

We then jumped back on the MRT over to Raffles place which was the closest MRT stop to the famous Singapore landmark – The Merlion. We had anticipated seeing this a few days ago but we didn’t get there. It’s a statue, but it’s iconic and there was ALOT of people there.

We walked around the esplanade, past the fancy hotels and across the helix bridge over to Marina Bay Sands and enjoyed the views.

Inside MBS

We grabbed a fancy iced tea inside MBS, it was dang massive, way bigger than we expected.

It’s hard to tell how big it is, but that’s not a small head

We walked over to gardens by the bay and Julian spent a bit of time playing at the playground there as the sun went down.

2 eggs and milk please

Then we went over to watch the Gardens by the bay night light show – Garden Rhapsody.

Pretty
Music and lights
Colours

After the show they have an art installation where all of the super trees shoot out mist and then lights are projected on the mist to make it look like the aurora borealis. It’s hard to take a picture of, but it’s pretty awesome.

Northern lights
Looks like the sky, it’s just mist

It was very late at this time and we had to walk back to the MRT, grabbed some Chagee ice teas from great world and made the trek back to the hotel.

He was tuckered out
