Great Ocean Road Trip Day 9 – Echuca to Albury

Hi everyone,

We started the day off in beautiful Echuca by nipping right next door and getting a Maccas Brekky. Julian played on the equipment and we drank coffee and ate hotcakes, not a bad way to start the morning.

Fun at McD’s

We than packed the car up and drove 2 minute down the road back to the Port of Echuca for our first scheduled activity which was to do a paddle steamer cruise on the Murray river. We loaded onto the boat which cruised up the Murray for about an hour while the tour guide gave use facts about the various steamboats. The Murray is so huge and so nice. The paddle steamer was fun too. A very enjoyable experience.

There is a lot of theming around the port too

We grabbed an early lunch in Echuca at a burger place called Bruburger which was right next to the ice cream place from last night. Aimee got the BBQ beef and Ronnie got the Asian fried chicken, both of these burgers were absolutely delightful, Echuca rules!

Dangggg good burger

We then hit the road for about 2 hours to our next quick roadside stop which was a town known by Glenrowan which is famous for one single thing and that is being the place where Ned Kelly was apprehended. Basically the whole town is Ned Kelly themed. It’s a pretty fun vibe. We visited the Ned Kelly museum and had a look around town at the various Ned Kelly themed stores and attractions. A nice little off-beat roadside town that makes regional road trips great.

We think he’s sick of posing for photos

Then we drove about another hour to the final destination of our road trip which is just back across the NSW border in Albury. Albury is also a very nice town. We checked into our hotel and went down to the park which is on the Murray river and is so beautiful, it was also happening too. Lots of people playing and swimming and having outdoor fun, ya just don’t see that in Bathurst. The Macquarie absolutely does not compare. We put our feet in the river and walked around this lovely area for a while before heading into town and grabbing Chinese for dinner, which was also pretty good. You know Chinese is good when they have old menus, cranky old Chinese ladies working there and a child doing homework on one of the tables. Tick, tick and tick.

Beautiful spot
The water was very, very cold. Would be stunning in summer

This is essentially the last day of our road trip as we are just waking up and driving home to Bathurst tomorrow. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading along and perhaps have gotten ideas for road trips that you might want to take yourself.

Much love and see you on our next adventure!

Ronnie, Aimee and Julian.
