Hi everyone,
We did our usual coffee run which was easy in Port Campbell as the town is tiny, but it also impacts the coffee choices which are pretty low quality. We knew we had a big drive day in front of us so we hit the road. We had an audiobook that we listened to most of our trip “the wedding people” by Alison Espach. We finished it yesterday so we had to get another short one so we opted for an Agatha Christie literary classic “and then there were none”.
We stopped for lunch at a little country town called Avoca. Does every country town in Australia have a bakery that claims to have “famous” pies? Well this one did – Pyrenees Pies (we’ve personally never heard of them) and we tried them and they were pretty normal pies.

The rest of the drive was very rural. We went through a few tiny towns and on backwater country roads. One huge part of it was on a dirt road, which was unexpected. We ended up making it to our destination for the night Echuca.

Echuca sits on the Murray river (which we’ve never seen before) and is also Australia’s longest river. It’s actually huge. One day we’d love to rent a houseboat and cruise down this river.

The port of Echuca is a historical area that is really kept in good shape from the colonial era. We spent time walking around here exploring and going through the little free museum.

A bit later we went out for dinner to a Greek restaurant called Sunago. We got some cocktails to start which were delicious and we had mixed skewers, saganaki cheese and coconut prawns with a mango dipping sauce. It was all really great. We tend to over-order all the time when we go to restaurants but we did pretty well this time and enjoyed it all.

Echuca has a really big nightlife and this was obvious as soon as we got into town. For such a small place (15k pop.) the town is vibrant and happening. There is a lot happening on the main drag here, lots of people out, lots of hens nights going on and people getting out. It’s a vibe. We joined the vibe by being out and grabbing some ice cream and listening to a local musician while we ate it. It was quite nice.

Much love,
Ronnie, Aimee and Julian.
