Great Ocean Trip – Day 4 – Lorne to Apollo Bay

We woke up and had a slow morning because we’re in a sleepy seaside town. We packed up and headed to the bakery downstairs for a coffee, pizza bread and sausage roll. We were going to go over to the beach but the cockatoos are crazy here when you have food with you and it was lightly raining.

Breakfast of champions

Last night we booked in some activities at the local Live Wire Park. One of those activities was the Zip Coaster which is a 512 metre zip line coaster track. We just booked it in to do one after the other so Julian was accompanied the whole time. It was quite fun! At times it was super fast and others it was slower but it felt like you would hit the trees when going around the bends.

Ready for action
Super fun
A long way down
Watching and cheering us on

After we finished the coaster we went to the Spring Circuit which was a number of bouncy nets connected by bridges. Julian really loved this. He especially loved chasing us around the bridges. We then took the Canopy Circuit back to the car after a while which was a series of swing bridges. It was raining the whole time we were at Live Wire Park but we can’t let the rain stop us.

Chasing around the tree tops
High in the sky
A bit scary up here
It was fun though
We had the whole place to ourselves
Big ropes courses too, but not for us

We then went on Teddy’s Lookout which has a great view out over the Great Ocean Road. It ended up being sunny and warm here. The temperature is really inconsistent. One minute you need a puffy jacket and the next you need a shirt and shorts.

A lovely view
Photos don’t really do it justice

Finally it was lunch time and we decided on Tacos n Tequila. While we didn’t indulge in the tequila we really went hard on the tacos. We got a plate of birria tacos and some other assorted tacos, and we started with some jalapeño poppers which were not actually spicy but really tasty. Julian enjoyed his chicken quesadillas and we also decided it was our best meal out so far.

Jalapeño poppers were damn good
Chicken taco at the bottom was so good
Do bad Birria tacos exist? We don’t think so

After lunch we were intending to do a bushwalk to Sheoak Falls but the road was closed due to recent heavy rainfall. We just decided to move on to our next accommodation. The views on the drive are super nice but the road is very windy. Aimee was feeling a bit queasy and keen to settle in at the next stay.

Typical view from the car in this drive

For the next two nights we’re staying at the Big4 Holiday Park in a Beach Tent which has a spectacular ocean view. It is really spacious with everything we need. We’re not usually cook on holiday people but the deck of the tent has a BBQ we wanted to take advantage of so we went and got supplies and enjoyed a sausage sizzle and a nice beverage. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing in our tent taking in the views.

For dessert we ate our chocolates we purchased yesterday. Unfortunately they weren’t quite as tasty as they looked. The cinnamon biccies on the other hand are delightful.

Cheeky boy

Tomorrow begins a run of three days that are really the main event for this trip. We can’t wait!

Much love,

Ronnie, Aimee and Julian.
