Malaysia Day 10 – Final day

Hi everyone,

It was our last day in Malaysia and there were a lot of little places we had missed or hadn’t been to so it was our mission today to at least see or try most of them if at all possible.

He wanted a picture in this specific spot

We woke up like normal and had our excellent buffet breakfast at the hotel. Usually a buffet breakfast is not great, but this one is and we think it’s the best and most convenient way to have breakfast when travelling.

We walked the roughly a kilometre to Suria KLCC at the base of the petronas towers. Our first stop today was to the Petrosains discovery centre. It is a huge science museum, very much like Questacon in Canberra, but quite a bit better and more interactive.

85km/h it reckons, nah, quicker than that.

There was some really great and clever exhibits, the F1 simulator was fun that Ronnie tried out, there was a big AI exhibit which was interesting and fun. In one of them you had to draw a prompt and see how long it takes the AI to guess it. It’s getting too clever. The whole discovery centre was a lot of fun.

We then caught a grab over to the Chinatown area to check out the sites there. The first one was central market. Central market is an aesthetic art deco building that contains a shopping area and small eateries. It’s pretty funky.

Central market was busy

Then we jumped over to Petaling street which is an actual full on market. People yelling at you to buy their stuff, lots and lots of cheap crap basically. While at Petaling street we visited the famous pancake uncle. An old man and his wife that have been making these peanut pancakes their whole life and a serving costs about 60 cents. Pretty good value.

Peanut pancake, kinda weird

After petaling we walked over to are all which is designed to be a cultural hub. It’s a very chic building with a very popular bookstore at the top which would be absolutely lovely, if it was not absolutely packed the brink with people getting the perfect shots for instagram, which can basically be said for all of these Chinatown sites. It was the middle of the day on Saturday, it was about 35 degrees and you could not move in all of them. Each of these places would be 100% better if less people. The amount of people really made it hard to enjoy these spots.

He enjoyed it

After getting out of the hustle and bustle of Chinatown we walked to Merdeka Square via the River of life.

The river of life…is not a nice river
This mural next to it was a bit nicer

Merdeka square is the site that Malaysia declared independence from Britain. It’s basically just a big field next to a nice building. Julian loved running around on the field, but his shoes got very muddy. While we were doing this it started pissing down rain so we had to run for cover.

We waited out the rain and then caught a grab back to our hotel. We were pretty buggered so we ordered some grab from Oriental Kopi for dinner and a cheesy Kunafa.

It looks mad but it was actually weird and not that good

We waited until dark and went up to the top of our hotel for a view of the skyline and the petronas towers at night.

We then did the walk back over to Suria KLCC to see the fountain light and music show as well as to see the petronas towers up close at night. We took it all in as we caught our last glimpses of night time in Malaysia.
