Queensland road trip – Sunshine Coast to Brisbane – Day 8

Hi everyone,

This morning we skipped our morning walk because we had a lot of cleaning up of our room and packing of the car to do. We did that and then we hit the road, about 30 minutes north of where we were staying (Alexandra head) is a little town called Eumundi that is famous for their markets that happened to be on today.

It was very hot here

We explored the markets. For such a small town, these markets are massive. Like always, we were on the hunt for some food. We had a German bockwurst, a few sugar cane juices because fuck they’re good and a Hungarian pastry called a langos that was amazingly yum. Then for a dessert we had an absurdly priced cup of strawberries with melted chocolate. A great food session. They had several musicians but it was very hot and very busy.

Good, but $12 damn man

After the markets we got back in the car and drove to Maroochydore to the Sunshine plaza where we went to an indoor play centre called Rush Adventureland. Julian had an amazing time here. He frothed the big ball pit and would have played here all day if we let him.

He was very happy after this so we grabbed some bubble tea from the gong cha in the centre and got in the car to drive about an hour and a half to Brisbane. When we do long drives we put the iPad on for Julian to help him get through them but the battery had died so it was a bit of a difficult drive but we found a way forward and he had a little sleep which was good until we got to Brisbane and the hotel informed us that their car park was full despite us booking it months in advance. We had to park in a car park 200m down a hill. If anybody has travelled with a baby/toddler you’ll understand the issue here. The amount of luggage that we had to haul up that hill was ridiculous. It was also 35 degrees and we were tired and angry. It was not a good time.

We eventually got into the hotel and freshened up before we went down to a place called Howard Smith Wharves which is an absolutely happening part of the city. It’s an old industrial area that was recently developed into a bar and dining precinct that is incredible popular. We met up with Aimee’s dad and his wife and had a drink with them at Felons which is enormous and very, very cool. Literally hundreds of tables, we couldn’t believe how big it was. After the drink we were just buggered so we grabbed Betty’s burgers again and went back to our hotel room to eat it and hang out.

We have a big day of Brisbane ahead that should have more photos. Didn’t get much of a chance to take many today because it has felt like a real struggle day, but we should be more organised tomorrow and settle in.

Ronnie, Aimee and Julian.
