Queensland road trip 2024 – Day 6 – Sunshine Coast

Hi everyone,

We woke up this morning and went for our usual morning walk. Strolled down and grabbed an ice coffee. It was already 21 degrees at 7am. It’s hot here. Also since there is no daylight savings it’s bright af at 5am which makes staying asleep difficult. The iced coffees were nice. We then went home and geared up for our adventure today. The Irwin Family’s famous Australia Zoo.

Keen and ready for the zoo!
Checking out the crocs
Let’s go see some animals already

The zoo is really different to what we imagined. It is very, very clean and well set out. Unfortunately the stadium is undergoing refurbishments so we were unable to see the famous crocodile show. Julian really loved the elephants, giraffes and the tiger. He likes saying hello to all of the animals. Aimee loved seeing the koalas, one of them had two little baby koalas she was carrying around.

Komodo dragon
Hello elephant! awooo
Hello Kangaroo
A sleeping koala
Worlds tallest giraffe
He was so gentle with the snake

As the day wore on, it was getting hotter and hotter. We escaped the heat into the cafe and had an exorbitantly priced lunch but it was nice to escape the heat for a bit.

He ate more, we promise

By this point Julian was running out of steam. We trekked around more looking at some more animals and visiting Bindi’s island to see the big tortoises and Lemurs. The we got some refreshing sorbets and eventually Julian had, had enough and was tired, hot and very much tuckered out.

There are giraffes, zebras and rhinos behind her, you just can’t see them.
Raspberry sorbet. Refreshing!
Poor tired little boy

When we got home though after sleeping in the car he brightened up and tried on his new digs!

Crikey, I’m cute!

Ronnie had a swim at the hotel pool when we got home and we had some average Korean ordered via Uber eats because we are completely pooped.

Refreshing!
Not that good, but okay

We have another big day planned on the Sunshine Coast tomorrow, because we always have big days!

Ronnie, Aimee and Julian.
