Queensland road trip 2024 – Port Macquarie to Byron Bay – Day 3

Hi everyone,

Early morning as we woke up to watch the not so mighty Eagles eke out another close win against the worst team in the league. Then once Julian woke up we went for a walk into town to grab coffee which was delicious. We really liked our time in Port Macquarie. It is really quite nice and lovely. We would definitely come back.

We hit the road for what turned out to be a pretty long drive day. We drove to Coffs Harbour for lunch but the place we wanted to eat at wasn’t what we thought and the park we wanted to take Julian to was completely blocked off with construction. We hightailed it out of there and stopped at a nearby beautiful beachside town called Woolgoolga which is also known as Woopi. We played at a playground and got some ice cream. We wished very much that we had stopped here first. The lesson is to plan your stops on a road trip! We will not make this mistake again.

Rainbow ice cream – refuses to believe it’s actually caramel

We hit the road again for another long and very boring drive. The pacific highway is 110 all the way but it’s just soooo plain and boring. We got to our next stop in Ballina. We went to visit Ronnie’s uncle Bob and Aunty Colleen. It was nice for Julian to meet them for the first time, he was shy and tired but he warmed up towards the end. By this point we were exhausted though.

We then hit the road to the influencer capital of NSW – Byron bay. We checked into our cabin at the holiday park and went into town to grab some takeaway food to eat a bit later as we were still pretty full from car snacks, lunch and ice cream. Betty’s burgers is always a winner. Though we have realised that we need to stop winging meals and stops as it is almost always better when we plan ahead. Itinerary review due tonight!

Dang Betty, you fine.

After Julian went to bed we spent the night playing board and card games!

Sea, Salt and Paper – what a game!

Full day in Byron tomorrow – looking forward to that.

Ronnie, Aimee and Julian.
